Within-host Cellular Automata Model of Toxoplasma gondii
نویسندگان
چکیده
Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan capable of replicating sexually in cats and asexually in other warm-blooded animals. By using a three dimensional mesh of both the brain and spleen, it is possible to simulate using a computational model to demonstrate the entire life-cycle of the parasite as it completes its’ life-cycle using host cells of these organs. A cellular automata model is developed to demonstrate the dynamics of the parasite, where each cell follows the same set of rules for each discrete time-step. The cellular automata models data simulations to be run of the parasite within a mouse and display graphical images and animations. The simulations of this model are performed using approximations to describe an infection within a mouse brain and spleen. ∗Email: [email protected].

Primary culture of intestinal epithelial cells as a potential model for Toxoplasma gondii enteric cycle studies.
The primary culture of intestinal epithelial cells from domestic cats is an efficient cellular model to study the enteric cycle of Toxoplasma gondii in a definitive host. The parasite-host cell ratio can be pointed out as a decisive factor that determines the intracellular fate of bradyzoites forms. The development of the syncytial-like forms of T. gondii was observed using the 1:20 bradyzoite-...
متن کاملSerological Evaluation of Experimental Toxoplasma gondii Infection in Cats by Using Immunoblotting Based on an Affinity Purified Surface Antigen
Toxoplasma gondii is an apicomplexan parasite that infects human and almost all warm-blooded animals. The life cycle of the parasite includes an asexual reproduction in intermediate hosts (Mammals and birds) and a sexual reproduction in definitive hosts (Felidae). Cats are both the intermediate and the definitive host for T. gondii. The aim of this study was to investigate anti-T. gondii antibo...
متن کاملA combination of antigenic regions of Toxoplasma gondii microneme proteins induces protective immunity against oral infection with parasite cysts.
Infection with Toxoplasma gondii causes morbidity and mortality in congenitally infected and immunocompromised individuals. Both humoral and cell-mediated immunity are involved in host resistance to invasion of the parasite. Among putative vaccine candidates, the T. gondii microneme proteins appear to be promising, because they are responsible for the invasion process. The present work focused ...
متن کاملToxoplasma gondii infection confers resistance against BimS-induced apoptosis by preventing the activation and mitochondrial targeting of pro-apoptotic Bax.
In order to accomplish their life style, intracellular pathogens, including the apicomplexan Toxoplasma gondii, subvert the innate apoptotic response of infected host cells. However, the precise mechanisms of parasite interference with the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway remain unknown. Here, we used the conditional expression of the BH3-only protein Bim(S) to pinpoint the interaction of T. gon...
متن کاملExogenous tumor necrosis factor-alpha could induce egress of Toxoplasma gondii from human foreskin fibroblast cells
Toxoplasma gondii is an intra-cellular protozoan parasite that can infect almost all nucleated cells, eliciting host immune responses against infection. Host tissue damage is mainly caused by cellular lysis when T. gondii egresses from infected cells. However, the effects of cytokines released by host immune cells on egression of T. gondii remain elusive. This study aimed to investigate the rol...
